About me

I have worked in the field of mental health and emotional well-being for over 30 years. In the early eighties I trained in social work and social care, working for the local authority in mental health day services. I also worked as a project worker for Solent MIND (a leading national charity involved in all aspects of mental health)where I facilitated an art club. I believe creative expression in the broadest sense of the word and in art in particular, to be of great therapeutic benefit. I am a practicing artist myself and have used art in research for my Masters degrees.

I am a tutor at Peter Symonds College, Winchester, in continuing adult education and teach on the Counselling Skills and degree courses in Counselling. I enjoy the experience and positive challenge of working with students in their personal and professional development.

I have worked as a counsellor since 1995. Besides having my own private practice I worked as a counsellor for the NHS in primary care for 17 years and also as a counsellor for Hampshire County Council for 20 years. In my current private practice I provide counselling and psychotherapy, both short-term and long-term. I work with individuals and couples and offer help with;
  • emotional difficulties
  •  personal development
  • depression and anxiety
  • relationship problems (personal, social, family, work)
  • self-esteem and confidence-building
  • sexual concerns
  • loss and bereavement
  • stress
  • life changes and transitions
  • assertiveness
  • childhood sexual abuse
  • employment issues
  • self harm
  • addiction
